Here is a step by step guide to use the Pathfinder RPG Random Treasure Generator. I will try to explain the logic as best as I can so you can understand why some results appear that way.
The Random Treasure Generator works by computing the total treasure value in gold pieces. Then it generates a treasure item and reduces the residual value by that amount. If an item is too expensive for the residual value then it is rejected. The treasure generator does this until all treasure is generated. For performance reasons if the item magic level is set to Major and the residual value is lower than 300gp then the magic level is automatically reduced to Medium. Same thing for Medium settings and residual value under 50gp, the number of treasure items rejected is reduced and the process is speedup. If you want a more detailed explanation of the generator's workflow click here.
Let's explain the Pathfinder RPG Random Treasure Generator nine different settings.
Step #1: the encounter difficulty
This is the modifier on your APL (Average Party Level) for the encounter difficulty you choose. This is explained on page 397 of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook and will apply a -1 to +3 on your APL.
Step #2: Average Party Level
Select your party average level as explained on page 397 of the Core Rulebook. Remember to round to nearest whole number (this is an exception to the round down rule).
Step #3: select the game pace
Pathfinder Roleplaying Game let's you select a progression speed and you must specify it as explained on page 399 of the core Rulebook. This will affect the final random treasure generated value.
Step #4: treasure quantity
This variable is set by the type of encounter you select and depend on the creatures included in it. Choose the level of treasure associated with by looking at the "Treasure" entry in your Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Bestiary books.
Step #5: magic level
This is the variable you select to set the random treasure magic level. It is mentioned on page 401 of the Core Book that a minor magic item as a value around 1000gp, a medium is around 10000gp and a major item is around 40000. Depending on the total treasure value and the residual value you can specify your preference as the type of treasures that will be generated.
Step #6: residual value
The residual value is the proportion of the treasure that is composed of coins and jewels instead off items. If you select 0% then your random treasure will be composed only of items. By default it is set to 10% coins and jewels. Note that this value is the total value of coins and jewels.
Step #7: jewels vs coins
This is the proportion of coins and jewels in the residual value. If you would like to have more jewels then push the slider toward the left end, the jewels.
Step #8: treasure label
This label is a custom text added to the random treasure result header so you can identify it more easily.
Step #9: other options
Thanks to all the users feedback I decided to add these options to further customize the resutls:
